A former Disney World customer relations employee has been charged with embezzling $100,000 from the Orlando theme park. Jennifer Alejandra Insuasti, a 32-year-old Florida woman, turned herself in to authorities on Monday. She is being charged by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement with one count of grand theft of $100,000 or more.

Doling Out Refunds

Ms. Insuasti’s duties included fielding complaints from dissatisfied guests and offering them refunds, free tickets, or free resort stays.

But investigators accuse her of issuing refund money directly into her own bank account. Additionally, she allegedly redirected funds into the bank accounts of friends and family.

Disney has turned over records that show 41 fraudulent debit or credit card refunds, as well as four bogus check refunds that Insuasti oversaw. Guests who interacted with the suspect always received their refund, but she then stole money directly from Disney and covered it up as part of a legitimate customer transaction.

Two Year Heist

Florida investigators claim that the scam began in March 2016 and lasted until July of 2018, a two-year fraud scheme. Authorities also allege that Insuasti used old refund accounts as a cover when rerouting money into unlawful bank accounts. At least seven family members and friends are also being investigated.

Insuasti is being held at the Osceola County Jail on $100,000 bail.
